At the Maternal and Child Hospital of San Isidro, during the month of October — Perinatal and Gestational Loss Awareness Month, psychologist and grief specialist Lic. Marta Osorio de Plos offered a dialogue that opened a space for deep collective reflection on death and perinatal grief.

IPOV participants Mirjam Lukasse and Enid Leren Myhre (University of South-Eastern Norway) carried out their secondment in Barcelona, hosted by Vanessa Bruno at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital. The stay focused on strengthening institutional collaboration, advancing data analysis, and presenting preliminary results on respectful care in midwifery education — a milestone in the IPOV Horizon MSCA project.

Motivated by conversations with my colleagues Virginie Rozee and Lucile Faivre at INED, I began to examine what it means to approach obstetric practice with either epistemic arrogance or epistemic humility. In what follows, I discuss how these epistemic attitudes—arrogance and humility—manifest in maternity care and how they might contribute to, or help combat, obstetric violence.

On 27 August, Patrizia Quattrocchi (University of Udine) met with Dr. Antonio Poggiana, Director General of the Giuliano Isontina University Health Authority (ASUGI), at the General Directorate headquarters in San Giovanni Park, Trieste. The interview is part of a qualitative study on the Casa della Salute della Donna, dell’Infanzia e dell’Adolescenza of Gorizia, developed within the international project IPOV – Respectful Care.

During her stay in Spain, Dr. Fernanda González (National University of Entre Ríos—UNER, Argentina) joined a radio program hosted by Spain’s National University of Distance Education (UNED). In conversation with Dr. Laura Quintanilla (Faculty of Psychology, UNED), they explored matrescence—the transition to motherhood—and its deep personal, social, and community implications.

Serena Brigidi, on secondment at the Burlo Garofolo – WHO Collaborating Centre for Maternal and Child Health, and Patrizia Quattrocchi (IPOV) were received by the head of the center, midwife Roberta Giornelli, and by midwife Francesca Demitri. They were also accompanied by Sandra Morano, a gynaecologist with extensive national and international experience, on a scientific visit to Trieste to collaborate with IPOV activities.

Within the framework of the IPOV project, which aims to document and promote experiences to combat obstetric violence, this account brings together two testimonies from a public hospital in Barcelona.

During the IPOV San Isidro team’s visit to Barcelona, a deep, honest and moving conversation took place in Palafrugell (Girona), at the L’EIX Centre for Body Pedagogy, with Núria Vives Parés — an internationally recognised expert in movement pedagogy and applied anatomy in childbirth. This dialogue formed part of IPOV’s ongoing efforts to eradicate obstetric violence and transform maternity care models.
