Obstetric violence and perinatal mental health are intertwined phenomena that have gained visibility within interdisciplinary research on human rights, gender and public health. Within the IPOV project (International Platform on Obstetric Violence), which seeks to develop global conceptual frameworks and strategies to address obstetric violence, it is crucial to explore how these experiences affect the psychological well-being of women, pregnant people, their babies and families, as well as the possible practices of reparation.

Justicia restaurativa como estrategia transformadora frente a la violencia obstétrica

Obstetric violence is a specific form of gender-based violence that occurs within both public and private healthcare systems and violates the rights of women and their newborns. Restorative justice, conceived as a formative rather than punitive process, can become a transformative tool to repair harm and prevent further violations. This essay presents a critical analysis of restorative justice in cases of obstetric violence, highlighting the importance of time, safe spaces, and health team training to ensure ethical and meaningful processes of reparation.
