From April 7 to 9, 2025, the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina, will host the IX Jean Monnet Network BRIDGE WATCH Seminar. This event will bring together 56 experts from 13 countries to discuss “Human Rights, Dignity, and Equality: A Dialogue between Latin America and Europe.”
Among the distinguished participants is Dr. Romina Gallardo Duarte, a lawyer and local consultant for the Faculty of Law at the Universidad de la República in Uruguay. As an active participant in the IPOV Respectful Care project, she will present her research on progress and challenges in the regulation and protection of rights in the face of obstetric violence.


A Comparative Perspective Between Latin America and the European Union
The workshop on April 9 at 3:00 PM will feature the presentation of 22 selected scientific papers. In this session, Romina Gallardo will share her research on legislative advances in addressing obstetric violence in Latin America and the European Union, as well as the challenges that remain in ensuring the effective implementation of these regulations.
Her presentation will analyze key jurisprudential milestones from international human rights protection bodies in both regions and will examine access to justice for individuals affected by this form of violence, with a particular focus on Uruguay.
A Key Event for International Debate and Collaboration
The seminar, organized by the Jean Monnet Network BRIDGE WATCH and funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program, aims to foster cooperation between the EU and Latin America on democratic values and human rights. It will be held in a hybrid format, combining in-person and virtual sessions.
