As part of the First Latin American Congress on Perinatal Mental Health, held from 15–18 October 2025 in Viña del Mar, Chile, the symposium “Mental Health and Obstetric Violence: From First-Person Experiences to Integral Interventions” was coordinated by two members of the IPOV – Respectful Care project: Dr. Carolina Farías (University of the Republic, Uruguay) and Dr. María Fernanda González (National University of Entre Ríos, Argentina).

The symposium brought together experiences from Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, and Italy, featuring the following presentations:
- “Weaving Care in Perinatal Mental Health: Experiences in the Public Health System,” by Camila Viera Cash, Carla Molinelli Meirelles, and Lucía Duarte (Uruguay).
- “Tensions and Opportunities for Reducing the Cesarean Section Rate in Uruguay: Perspectives from Health Professionals,” by Dr. Carolina Farías (Uruguay).
- “Gynecological and Obstetric Violence and Its Impact on the Mental Health of Women with Disabilities: A Case Study in Chile,” by Dr. Pía Rodríguez-Garrido, Andrea Yupanqui-Concha, and Cristina Valenzuela-Contreras (Chile).
- “IPOV: An International Collaborative Platform against Obstetric Violence and for Perinatal Health,” by Dr. María Fernanda González (Argentina) and Dr. Patrizia Quattrocchi (Italy).

The symposium fostered an enriching exchange among professionals and researchers from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal, promoting dialogue on concrete experiences in perinatal mental health, care models, and strategies to address obstetric violence. It also opened new avenues for research, training, and transnational collaboration, strengthening the development of the IPOV international platform.
