As part of the First Latin American Congress on Perinatal Mental Health, held from 15–18 October 2025 in Viña del Mar, Chile, the symposium “Mental Health and Obstetric Violence: From First-Person Experiences to Integral Interventions” was coordinated by two members of the IPOV – Respectful Care project: Dr. Carolina Farías (University of the Republic, Uruguay) and Dr. María Fernanda González (National University of Entre Ríos, Argentina).

Este concepto, creado en la región latinoamericana, refiere a un tipo particular de violencia de género, ejercido por el personal de salud sobre sus pacientes durante la atención institucional del embarazo, parto, puerperio, aborto y otros eventos gineco-obstétricos.
